Wijaya
As a student leader at Choate Rosemary Hall, I focus on building a stronger culture of wellness, inclusion, and belonging within the community. Through my work on the Wellness Committee Team, I help create spaces where students can have open conversations about mental health and personal challenges. My role centers around peer support, identifying ways to improve student wellbeing, and contributing ideas for initiatives that encourage students to seek help and support one another.
Beyond campus wellness efforts, I serve as an International Mentor, helping new international students navigate the transition into boarding school life by providing guidance on academics, community involvement, and cultural adjustment. Drawing from my own experience adapting to a new environment, I work to ensure younger students feel welcomed and connected from the beginning. I also contribute to Mentors Opening Doors, a student-led organization co-founded by peers at Deerfield Academy that supports Chinese international students adjusting to boarding school through mentorship and cultural guidance.
I have also worked to expand conversations around mental health in athletics by helping organize a guest lecture series featuring professional sports psychologists from institutions such as Yale and Harvard. Through these events, I aim to challenge traditional perceptions of masculinity and performance by highlighting the importance of mental preparation, emotional resilience, and overall wellbeing alongside physical achievement.
Across these roles, I have learned that leadership is not defined by a title or position, but by the ability to listen and create meaningful change within a community. Whether supporting a new international student or helping create more open conversations around mental health, my goal is to make people feel supported, valued, and comfortable asking for help.
